What is GRS?
GRS is a private international humanitarian aid and development organization.
Founded in 1997 by Robert and Barbara Springs, the current Chief Executive
Officer and his wife. With over fifteen years experience in international
development, the Springs were recruited to coordinate the mobilization
and distribution of 100,000 children’s coats to children in North
Korea by several humanitarian organizations. As a result of the successful
completion of this project, GRS was born. Since that time, GRS evolved
and expanded, providing food aid, emergency relief, health care, education
and other assistance.

Can I Volunteer for GRS?
With the exception of the GRS internship program and short-term
consultants, GRS does not generally use volunteers in the implementation
of its on-going relief and development programs overseas for a number
of reasons.
Whenever possible, GRS hires local people to enhance and expand in-country skills and knowledge, and ensure sustainability. Also, most programs require specific expertise, which will be needed for the duration of the program, and require two-to-five years of experience.
Very often, local laws prohibit or severely restrict the use of non-local volunteers. Using volunteers internationally also can be very costly in regard to airfare, meals and lodging.
Domestically, however, many of our offices accept volunteers for clerical, staffing duties, training camps, or for certain fund-raising efforts. Job opportunities and short-term consulting openings can be found on GRS's Web site in our Opportunities section.
