GRS Participates in USAID Food for Peace program.

GRS participates in the first U.S. bilateral food assistance program to North Korea since 2000. A group of five non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have signed a groundbreaking agreement with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. These organizations will distribute approximately 100,000 metric tons of food in two North Korean provinces over a period of 12 months. This partnership is part of a broader effort funded by the US Agency for International Development's (USAID) office of Food for Peace that will distribute 500,000 metric tons of food in North Korea. The World Food Programme (WFP) will distribute 400,000 metric tons to regions not covered by the partner organizations.

10-10-10 PROJECT

10-10-10 PROJECT: In celebration of 10 years of service in the DPRK (North Korea), Global Resource Services is launching its new campaign, the “10-10-10 Project.” The emphasis of this special effort is first, to deliver 10 containers of medical supplies (Approved Medical Supply List) and children’s coats to the DPRK by Christmas of 2007 in response to the current disaster situation created by severe flooding in August of this year. The second goal of the project is to deliver the ten containers to 10 hospitals in ten different communities of the DPRK. Currently, GRS has long term projects in four areas; the third goal is to expand this relationship to ten different communities by the year 2010.

GRS Installs Emergency Generators in 3 Hospitals

GRS is taking the lead in a one year project to install emergency generators and critical medical equipment for hospitals in North Korea. On September 30, 2007 GRS was asked  by the U.S. government to participate with three other non-governmental organizations (NGOs) including Mercy Corps, Samaritan's Purse, and Eugene Bell Foundation to implement this critical program for North Korean Medical System.

In June and July the generators were installed at hospitals in Wonsan and Nyongbyun. These generators will provide added security and stability in the electrical supply for the daily operation of these hospitals.

Opportunities to Serve - Internships

GRS internships provide students and professionals with a substantive and challenging work experience, and an opportunity to expand their knowledge and understanding of international development. GRS may offer US-based and internationally based internships. Student Internships may range from six weeks to nine months. Professional Internships are usually for two to three years. Internationally based internships are full-time. US based internships may be full-time or part-time depending on GRS's needs and the intern’s goals.

Opportunities to Serve - Volunteer

Global Resource Services depends on volunteers for many aspects of our US based operations to augment our support staff. Our programs and staff are continually growing and our need for volunteers is expanding. Our Ambassador Program provides many opportunities for volunteers who want to be involved in the implementation of our international programs. A sample of our currently available opportunities is listed below.

Public Outreach

Relationships, Respect, & Reconciliation are the common threads that empower our cause. This calls us to action as advocates for cultures who have much to offer the international community, and yet are suffering from natural disasters, injustice, or crisis.

AG 2100 - Cooperative Farm & Food Production: It is estimated that 3.5 million will perish as a result of the extended complex food shortages in North Korea. Several US and other humanitarian officials have predicted that unless the international community continues their relief effort, this could become the worst famine of not only the 20th century, but also the 21st century, with deaths totaling 5 million.

GRS was founded as a response to the complex natural disasters in the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (DPRK). It began as a way to advance the efforts of various private sector humanitarian organizations in an effort to facilitate a unified approach....
